Reader rating
Wortham successfully merges cowboy tales with time travel to create a distinct brand of psychological horror. The novel excels in building dread through loneliness and the heavy weight of old secrets rather than relying on violent spectacle. Its slow pacing allows fear to accumulate naturally, creating an intense reading experience for those patient enough to engage with its structure. While it may feel too calm for readers seeking quick thrills, it offers a compelling look at how the past controls the present. The gothic atmosphere is well-crafted, highlighting strange time issues within a Western setting. This book is best suited for audiences who enjoy mind-bending horror and value atmospheric depth over action-driven narratives.
