Will McCormick is set to start work at Crabtree Lodge as the nursing home's new night janitor. He is told by the other staff about all the strange and unusual happenings that happen at the lodge at night. He puts all this down to the older staff playing tricks on the new boy. But very soon Will comes to realise that the stories he has been told and not even close to the truth and that infact there is a true monster walking the lonely halls of Crabtree lodge once the sun goes down.

Drue Fairlie’s ghost story, Animus Est Vista, follows Will McCormick as he takes on the night janitor shift at Crabtree Lodge. Initially dismissing local tales of strange nocturnal happenings as harmless hazing by the older staff, Will soon discovers that the true terrors haunting these lonely halls are far worse than any campfire story. This atmospheric novel trades cheap jolts for a slow-burn dread, capturing the eerie isolation of an empty care facility after dark. Fairlie builds tension through steady pacing and creeping uncertainty rather than explicit gore. It is an ideal pick for readers who appreciate classic haunted house chills, immersive workplace settings, and quiet, unsettling ghost stories that linger long after the lights go out.
