Michael Errol Swaim crafts a deeply unsettling exploration of obsession and creative consumption in Absorbed by Excrement. The novel follows Joshua Meyers, an extreme horror writer whose outwardly comfortable family life masks dark, unruly cravings. When his sinister imagination begins spilling into reality, the boundary between art and existence violently collapses. Swaim builds an atmosphere of mounting dread and psychological claustrophobia, targeting a visceral, psychological brand of fear rather than cheap shocks. This unflinching descent into debasement will particularly appeal to readers who appreciate dark literary horror, complex domestic tension, and stories that interrogate the dangerous cost of artistic ambition.
