📝 Description: A Darkness Within: A Dark Fantasy & Horror Collection

Kai Leakes, a HWA-nominated author known for speculative fiction and romance, presents A Darkness Within: A Dark Fantasy & Horror Collection. This volume gathers short stories and novelettes that examine the dual nature of inner shadows. The narratives explore how darkness can drive individuals toward irreversible evil or offer protection against overwhelming grief. The collection includes specific tales such as Taste the Taint and A Darkness Within, which depict paths leading to malevolence. Sisters portrays survival during an ungodly Apocalypse, while A Winter's Tale and Pretty Wicked illustrate choosing darkness for strategic advantage. Legacy of The Sea provides a counterpoint by showing how light within darkness helps overcome loss. Leakes organizes these works to highlight the ills of the shadow self alongside its potential safeguards. This book suits readers interested in gothic themes and supernatural fiction who appreciate nuanced explorations of human nature. It may not appeal to those seeking straightforward action or lighthearted entertainment. The stories rely on established horror traditions rather than new world-building mechanics. Leakes uses her background in romance to add emotional depth to the darker elements. The collection stands as a focused examination of how internal struggles manifest in external realities. Readers looking for concise, atmospheric tales will find value in this structured approach to dark fantasy.
