David Achord delivers an engaging horror narrative focused on a world fundamentally altered by a zombie apocalypse. The book excels at building suspense through dual pressures: the external threat of evolving, mutating infected populations and the internal paranoia sparked by a murderer hiding within the camp. This tight focus on group conflict and deteriorating trust adds a compelling psychological layer to the physical horrors of survival. While it avoids traditional gothic literature and supernatural elements, it serves as a robust entry point for readers seeking fast-paced infection narratives and military entanglements. It suits enthusiasts of gritty survival fiction who enjoy watching ordinary characters crack under pressure when forced to manage compounding threats.
