Someone's lurking in the shadows in the small seaside town of Porthcawl, South Wales... Meet Simone. He's a quiet, shy boy with a lot of murky secrets, living in the shadows on the cusp of society. Like all boys, his mother is his best friend, but he has others. Unusual friends. Dark, secret friends who are all just dying to meet Simone's new plaything. When Simone and his friends come out to play, they'll leave you screaming. This edition also includes the dark, twisted tales: Djinnism, King Shit, Wasteland Warfare, Blood, Bullets, and Baubles, and Shoot Them All and Let God Sort Them Out. It's a collection of stories you won't want to miss. "Wind-Up Toy," has been called 'sickening' and 'horrific.' In the world of extreme horror, Simone will make you fear the dark.

Horror desk

Hughes delivers a relentless assault on sensibilities through Simone’s disturbing journey into darkness. The narrative excels at building an oppressive atmosphere where the mundane seaside setting masks profound evil. While the extreme content may alienate sensitive readers, it resonates deeply with fans of psychological horror who appreciate complex, morally ambiguous protagonists. The collection’s strength lies in its commitment to unsettling imagery and thematic depth regarding secret societies and inner demons. It suits audiences who prefer their terror visceral and immediate rather than subtle. The variety in tone keeps the reading experience dynamic, though the intensity remains consistently high throughout, demanding a reader prepared for sustained emotional and psychological pressure without respite.
