Mixed feelings

A friend from my book club recommended it. Good introduction if you have not read this author before. Read it in two sittings; the second one ran past midnight. It assumes some familiarity with the genre's tropes. Good, with the caveats above.

Dread done right

Grabbed it for a long flight. The atmosphere builds slowly and then does not let go. Glad I finally picked this up.

Wanted something for October and it delivered. The audiobook crowd will want the paper copy for the margins. Gorier than the description lets on, if that matters to you. Solid, if not essential.

Chilling

Not my usual subgenre but wanted to branch out. Genuinely unsettling in places, and it earns it without cheap tricks. It is the kind of horror that rewards reading with the lights on. Shipping was quick too.

I read a lot of horror and I'm picky. The monster is scarier for how little you see of it. Gorier than the description lets on, if that matters to you. Happy enough with the purchase.

Wanted something for October and it delivered. It pairs well with the classics it is clearly in conversation with. The atmosphere builds slowly and then does not let go. Definitely recommend.

Genuinely scary

Took a chance on it after reading the description here. Not a jump-scare book; it gets under the skin and stays there. Definitely recommend.
