The Summer is Ended and we are not yet Saved

Comeau delivers a clever exercise in genre awareness, turning the standard summer camp narrative on its head through self-reflexive storytelling. The premise allows for a distinct tone that balances absurdity with creeping dread, avoiding the trap of pure parody by maintaining genuine emotional stakes beneath the meta-commentary. This approach suits readers who appreciate literary horror that questions its own structure rather than simply executing it. While some may find the direct address gimmicky, others will revel in the fresh perspective it offers on classic tropes. It is a sharp, thoughtful entry in modern horror fiction that rewards attention to detail and an appreciation for narrative subversion.
