Horror desk

At Horror Reads, we love recommending books that slowly build an inescapable sense of dread, and Scott Smith’s national bestseller does just that. Set deep within a remote Mexican jungle, the story strands a group of friends in an unfamiliar landscape where isolation turns terrifying. Rather than relying on traditional jump scares, the novel cultivates a deeply atmospheric, creeping horror that preys on the vulnerability of being entirely cut off from civilization. It is an intense, suffocating read that will appeal strongly to fans of psychological survival stories and atmospheric wilderness horror who appreciate slow-burning, claustrophobic tension.
