This anthology stands as a vital corrective to the male-dominated canon of early weird fiction. By highlighting female voices from the Victorian period, it reveals how women navigated societal constraints through supernatural expression. Lovecraft’s introduction adds historical weight, framing these tales within the lineage of literary horror that valued psychological unease over gore.
