A graphic adaptation of Oscar Wilde's tale about a man whose portrait ages instead of him.
This volume reimagines the classic story through the lens of graphic art. The visual medium emphasizes the grotesque transformation of the portrait while Dorian remains unchanged. The narrative focuses on the psychological toll of his wish. It highlights the tension between aesthetic beauty and moral ugliness. The illustrations serve to externalize the internal corruption that spreads through Dorian’s life. This approach makes the abstract themes of sin and consequence more immediate for the viewer. The book captures the essence of Wilde’s critique without losing the original’s literary weight.
Published in 2022 by Union Square & Co., this edition updates a late nineteenth-century work. It bridges Victorian gothic fiction with contemporary graphic novel formats. The story remains relevant as a study of vanity and the separation of art from morality.
