📝 Description: The Couple at Number 9

Claire Douglas writes a suspenseful narrative centered on Saffron Cutler, who relocates to 9 Skelton Place with her partner Tom. The couple begins renovating the property, expecting a fresh start for their growing family. Their plans shift abruptly when construction workers discover human remains buried beneath the floor. Forensic analysis suggests these bodies have lain undisturbed for at least thirty years. The discovery triggers a police investigation that turns toward Saffron’s grandmother, Rose. The former owner of the cottage suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and resides in a nursing home. She cannot provide clear answers to the authorities despite her evident memory of past events. The story questions why the victims went unnoticed for decades and whether Saffron faces immediate peril as she digs into the house's dark history. This novel suits readers who enjoy domestic thrillers with supernatural undertones and gothic atmosphere. It appeals to those interested in family secrets and the psychological tension of uncovering hidden pasts. The book may not satisfy readers seeking fast-paced action or clear resolutions, as the narrative lingers on ambiguity and dread. Douglas constructs a tale where the home itself becomes a character, revealing its history through silence and decay rather than explicit confession.
