This anthology compiles thirteen tales of horror and gothic fiction by Edgar Allan Poe. The text includes well-known works such as The Tell-Tale Heart and The Black Cat, alongside lesser-read pieces like The Conversation of Eiros and Charmion and Landor's Cottage. Readers will find tales of psychological horror in The Imp of the Perverse and supernatural dread in The Masque of the Red Death. The compilation also features The Fall of the House of Usher, a cornerstone of atmospheric terror, and The Premature Burial, which explores claustrophobic fear. Other included narratives are The Oval Portrait, The Power of Words, MS. Found in a Bottle, The Devil in the Belfry, The Facts of M. Valdemar's Case, and Landor's Cottage. The book is organized as a straightforward anthology without introductory essays or critical analysis. It suits readers who enjoy classic horror, gothic literature, and supernatural fiction. Those seeking modern psychological thrillers or contemporary horror may find the style dated. The collection does not include Poe’s poetry or non-fiction works. It is available in paperback format from Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This edition gathers these specific titles into one accessible volume for fans of nineteenth-century American literature.

Horror desk
It successfully gathers well-known works like 'The Black Cat' and lesser-read pieces such as 'Landor's Cottage' into one volume. However, it does NOT suit readers seeking modern psychological thrillers or contemporary horror styles, as the prose may feel dated to some. Those looking for extensive biographical details or critical essays will also be disappointed. The lack of introductory essays means the experience is purely textual. It remains a solid choice for purists who want to explore atmospheric terror and claustrophobic fear without distraction, provided one accepts the straightforward, unannotated format.

I read a lot of horror and I'm picky. Good introduction if you have not read this author before. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. A keeper.

Finished it over a stormy weekend, which helped. Read it in two sittings; the second one ran past midnight. The setting is practically a character, and a hostile one. Glad I finally picked this up.

Wanted something for October and it delivered. It is the kind of horror that rewards reading with the lights on. Good introduction if you have not read this author before. If you like this kind of cooking, don't hesitate.

Added this to the shelf next to the ones I reread. It pairs well with the classics it is clearly in conversation with. The atmosphere builds slowly and then does not let go. A keeper.
