Edgar Allan Poe Analyzes Handwriting: A Chapter On Autography
✍️ Edgar Allan PoePoe analyzes handwriting to critique literary figures of his era.
This volume offers a dual perspective on 19th-century literature through the lens of graphology. Poe uses script analysis to evaluate character and talent among his contemporaries. The text functions as both a study of penmanship and a collection of literary critiques. By examining the physical traces left by writers, Poe reveals aspects of their personalities and professional standing. The accompanying Biographical Dictionary ensures that readers can identify each subject clearly. This structure allows for a deeper appreciation of the literary hierarchy during that specific historical moment.
Published in 2008 by Jim Chevallier, this edition revives Poe's lesser-known interest in autography. It preserves his observations on the literary figures of his time, providing a window into the critical standards and personal connections that defined that specific period of American literature.

Got it as a gift for a friend who loves the genre. The dread is in the pacing, not in gore, which is exactly how I like it. Will be gifting a copy to a friend.
Arrived quickly and well packaged. The setting is practically a character, and a hostile one. The audiobook crowd will want the paper copy for the margins. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Good, with the caveats above.
Ordered it for Halloween and it came in time. A few scenes I will not forget, whether I want to or not. Delivery took a bit longer than quoted. Good, with the caveats above.
Needed a good scare and got one. There's real craft in how much is left unsaid. Good introduction if you have not read this author before. A couple of the side characters are thinly drawn. Solid, if not essential.
Added this to the shelf next to the ones I reread. Good introduction if you have not read this author before. My only regret is not ordering it sooner.
