Brown delivers a compelling entry in the Ancient Gramarye series that successfully revitalizes the ghost story master's legacy for a modern audience. The book excels in establishing an oppressive atmosphere through its setting of the Cheshire countryside and Alderley Edge, turning archaeological excavation into a vector for supernatural horror. By intertwining Christmas haunting with themes of greed and faith, it offers emotional depth alongside its scares. This revised 10th anniversary edition is ideal for aficionados of dark fantasy and psychological horror who seek stories where the past actively intrudes upon the present. It suits readers who prefer atmospheric dread over gore, providing a chilling exploration of ritual landscapes and the perilous nature of disturbing ancient powers.
